Built for the way bulk
shipping actually runs.
Strait Marine is an Australian marine services company focused on bulk-carrier port calls in Victoria and South Australia. We coordinate the work, hold the partner network, and close the file.
One company, the
whole port call.
Bulk-carrier port calls in Australia are typically routed across five to seven different vendors per call — the chandler, the agent, the cleaning crew, the fumigator, the surveyor, the launch operator, the transport firm. Each comes with its own quote, scope, contact, and invoice. The coordination of those vendors is itself a real cost — paid in time, friction, and disbursement variance.
Strait Marine consolidates that coordination layer. We hold the partner network, the regulatory mapping, and the workflow. We keep the documentation together. We give the operator one point of contact for every service, every port, every call.
Some services we deliver directly. Others we coordinate through pre-vetted partners — class-society-approved welding firms, AFAS-accredited fumigators, AGSA-accredited surveyors, CASA-certified aviation operators. In every case we name the credential, name the partner, and stand accountable for the outcome.
The credentials
that govern our work.
Bulk shipping is a regulated industry. Every service category we coordinate sits under one or more standards, accreditations, or class-society requirements. We work only with partners who hold current credentials — verified against public registers — and we name them in every quote.
AGSA / DAFF
Australian Grain Surveyors Accreditation for Fitness-to-Load grain surveys, administered by AIMS since 1 July 2023.

Twelve ports.
Two states. One file.
Strait Marine operates across the Victorian coast and the South Australian gulf. Four Victorian ports — Melbourne, Geelong, Western Port, Portland — and eight South Australian — Adelaide, Port Pirie, Whyalla, Wallaroo, Ardrossan, Port Lincoln, Lucky Bay, and Thevenard.
The metro hubs (Melbourne, Adelaide, Geelong) get same-day coverage. The regional ports — particularly Ardrossan, Lucky Bay, and Thevenard, where the integrated networks have thin or no presence — are covered through local agency partnerships and pre-staged stock during grain season.
We don't claim ports we can't service. The twelve ports listed are the twelve we have or are establishing partner coverage for. Expansion to additional ports happens when we hold the partner network to back the claim.
What's coming
and when.
Coordination across all 15 service categories
Surveys, fumigation, hold preparation, technicians, welding, barge / launch, helicopter, provisions, crew management, cash to master, mooring ropes, lube oil, descaling hire, pilot ladders, PPE — all coordinated through current partner network across the twelve ports.
Lifting appliance and crane survey readiness
Operating to the new SOLAS amendments effective 1 January 2026. Class-credentialled surveyor partnerships in place to support the annual exam and 5-yearly load test cycle now mandatory for cargo gear.
CASA-certified drone operations
Launching September 2026 with sub-2kg DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise capability under operator accreditation. Hull and exterior inspection, draft surveys, aerial mapping, surveillance. Currently delivered through partner ReOC where required.
AUSTRAC RSP registration for direct CTM
Application targeted for Q4 2026. Until then, cash-to-master is delivered through registered Remittance Service Provider partner with full chain-of-custody documentation.
Confined-space hold inspection (Flyability Elios 3)
The highest-margin differentiator in Australian dry bulk. Currently only a handful of operators deliver it. Capital and training investment scoped for 2027 launch following ReOC consolidation.
Owned descaling fleet
Phase 2 capability investment in walk-behind rotary deck scalers, hand-held units, and dust extraction. Moves margin from 15–35% (sub-hire) to 60–80% (owned fleet) at scale.
